Melvin is a young person at Legacy who has been taking part in our MMA Sessions. We spoke to him to find out what he likes about Legacy and how the MMA Sessions have made an impact on him…
“Since joining Legacy, taking part in MMA and boxing sessions has had a huge positive impact on my life. The training has taught me valuable self-defence skills, which have made me feel more confident, safer, and more secure in myself. It has also shown me the importance of discipline, respect, and hard work. I have learned that staying calm and thinking before reacting is much more effective than acting on impulse.
One of the biggest changes I’ve noticed is how much better I am at managing my emotions. Before coming to Legacy, I would often react without thinking when I was angry or frustrated. Now, I’m learning to take a step back, stay in control, and deal with situations in a more positive way. This has helped me both inside and outside of training, including at home, in school, and with my relationships.
Legacy has become a place where I feel safe, supported, and accepted. Whenever I’m struggling or having a difficult day, I know I can come here and speak to someone who will listen without judging me. Having people who genuinely care about my well-being has made a big difference and has helped me through challenging times.
Another important part of Legacy has been the friendships I’ve built. I’ve met people from different backgrounds who encourage and motivate each other to do well. Being part of such a positive community has helped me feel like I belong, increased my confidence, and given me positive role models to look up to. Looking back, I can clearly see how much I have grown as a person. I understand my emotions much better than I used to, and I have developed more patience, self-control, and resilience. I feel more confident in making good decisions and dealing with challenges without letting my emotions take over.
Going forward, I want to continue building on the progress I’ve made. I plan to stay committed to boxing, MMA, and football because they help keep me focused, active, and motivated. I also want to keep improving my emotional control, build my confidence even further, and continue becoming the best version of myself. Legacy has given me opportunities, guidance, and belief in my abilities, and I am grateful for the positive impact it has had on my life.”
