The process of opening a Youth Zone is a very important one and it sets the foundations for the success which it will bring.
Below is a timeline showing dates and stories of events that have taken place and also key milestones for those which are to come…
Proposals for the development of an Onside Youth Zone in the borough of Croydon were given the go-ahead by the Council. This would be Onside's third London project to be announced within a matter of months.
Councillors voted in favour of the exciting plans, which would see a purpose-built Youth Zone open seven-days-a-week with more than 20 activities on offer every session for young people aged 8-19, or up to 25 for those with a disability from the borough.
A number of young people from Croydon began work on the brand identity development for their new Youth Zone.
The session involved a range of activities to get the group thinking creatively about what they want their Youth Zone to represent in their local community.
From thinking about the history and area of Croydon to thoughts around what the Youth Zone would mean to them, the young people worked passionately together, sharing their ideas on what the foundation of Croydon Youth Zone’s brand values and mission should be for years to come.
The young people of Croydon have spoken and their OnSide Youth Zone will officially be known as ‘Legacy’.
The announcement was made at a special presentation oat Bernard Weatherill House after a record number of young people had their say in the borough. Just short of 3,000 votes were cast with ‘Legacy’ and ‘365’ the options.
There could only be one winner though and with 1,603 votes, Croydon will be home to Legacy Youth Zone.
