LEGACY LIONS WINS 2/3 COMMUNITY TOURNAMENTS

HOW IT HAPPENED

On the 4th week of October 22, we hosted our very first community football tournament on Friday and were invited to two others earlier in the week, this was a mix of junior and Senior members who are part of our football team Legacy Lions.

Here’s a breakdown of the week:

Crystal Palace Foundation

Tuesday 25th Oct, Selhurst Park Football Stadium

London Youth Tournament

Thursday 27th Oct, Coram’s Fields London

Legacy’s Football Tournament

Friday 28th Oct, Selhurst Park Football Stadium

Crystal Palace Foundation

CPF hosted the first tournament on Tuesday 25th Oct at Selhurst Park Football Stadium, we brought two teams down to compete. Both teams had to play 5 games each to get to the semi-finals, which wasn’t a problem because we had  more than enough substitutes that could play all positions.

Team 1 won 3 and drew 3 games, Team 2 won 3 and drew 2. Both team 1 and 2 had to play each other in the semi-finals which was challenging for our members but team 1 got the win in the end and made it to the finals. In the finals our opponent was CPF and they had a solid team who have been playing well all day, this didn’t stop the Lions for pushing for a win to the very end but in this unlucky case, a Legacy member who was playing on the other team scored a goal in the second half and that won the game(he should of played for us).

It was unlucky we didn’t win but members loved the experience during their half term break.

London Youth Tournament U16s

Our next tournament we got invited to, was London’s youth football festival U16s boys at Corams’s Field London. There were 12 teams split into their respective age group with a max of 8 players, members traveled down by bus with all travel and lunch expenses paid for.

Our Legacy Lions had the winning spirit in their eyes on the way there, which showed on the pitch because they won 4 out of the 5 games and other was a draw. They won their semi-finals from penalties and then automatically won the finals since their opponents had to forfeit for breaking the rules.

The trophy was ours, and we sang/cheered the whole route home!

Legacy Community Football Tournament

We had over 100 people attend our community football tournament with 5/6 teams that took part, some non-members came together and created their own team since there was spaces left. Our Young leaders got involved as referee’s and sideline supporters while others provided awareness on Legacy Youth Zone to the community.

It was a long cloudy day with on-going screaming/shouting from the stands, the U13s and U16s finals came down to penalties but the Lions won both gamest and brought the trophy home. The tournament went on from 11:45-3pm with breaks in-between, friends, parents and carers came down to support, we even had football scouts ask for players details. We hope everyone enjoyed themselves.

A big thank you to CPF and London Youth for letting us participate and to all members and staff that help make our tournament happen. It was a wonderful half-term for our members and amazing teamwork from the whole community.
